HI.

I’m a senior reporter at Reuters, where I cover everything from cannabis to knock-knock jokes to the stock-picking skills of Kenny G.

I’ve also written several books, with more on the way. My first book, “Dreamland: Adventures in the Strange Science of Sleep,” was a New York Times best seller, picked for Barnes and Noble’s Discover Great New Writers program, and called one of the best books of the month by Amazon. My second book, “The King and Queen of Malibu: The True Story of the Battle for Paradise,” was named one of the best non-fiction books of the year by Amazon, was a Los Angeles Times best seller, and is currently in development as a television series. My third book, “Black Death at the Golden Gate: The Race to Save America from the Bubonic Plague,” will be published in May, 2019.

Along the way, I’ve appeared on MSNBC, Fox, Reuters TV, and several local television stations; written stories for the New York Times on topics ranging from unicycles to military funerals; contributed articles to the Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Times, The Daily Beast, and Psychology Today, among others; and shared my Southern California accent with listeners on numerous national and local NPR stations.
